Job summary

Leidos is seeking an AFSIM Modeling and Simulation Engineer with an active TS/SCI clearance at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The role blends deep technical expertise with collaboration among government personnel, contractors, and an interdisciplinary team to model and simulate advanced space, radar, aircraft, and missile systems.

You will develop and integrate system models into a large-scale AFSIM environment, create representations for AF/DoD use, and test extensions with CMake/Visual Studio.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/CE/EE with 8+ years of experience or Master’s with 6+ years; equivalent accepted.
• Proficiency in C++ and Modeling & Simulation techniques.
• Experience with CMake and Visual Studio for AFSIM extensions and plug-ins.
• Experience with AFSIM including extensions and plug-ins.
• Strong English writing and briefing skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills in a highly technical, collaborative environment.
• Ability to work independently under tight deadlines in a mixed government-contractor setting.

This role combines strong technical expertise with excellent collaboration skills, working alongside government personnel, contractors, and a team of engineers and scientists to solve complex challenges involving highly advanced systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop and integrate system models (satellites, radars, aircraft, missiles, command & control) into a large-scale, many-on-many AFSIM simulation environment.
• Collaborate closely with a small, cross-functional team of government and contractor staff.
• Create AFSIM representations of space and ground systems for AF/DoD use, applying engineering judgment to address intelligence gaps and accurately model real-world systems.
• Utilize CI/CD tools to test and evaluate AFSIM models prior to delivery.
• Prepare documentation, analytic reports, and multimedia products to support mission objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

• Active TS/SCI clearance
• Bachelor’s degree in CS, CE, EE, or related field with 8+ years of experience; OR Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience. Equivalent experience, training, or certifications may be accepted in place of a degree.
• Proficiency in C++ and Modeling & Simulation (M&S) techniques.
• Experience with CMake and Visual Studio for building and compiling AFSIM extensions and plug‑ins.
• Experience with AFSIM (Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling), including extensions and plug‑ins.
• Strong English-language writing and briefing skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to thrive in a highly technical, collaborative environment.
• Ability to work independently under tight deadlines in a mixed government-contractor setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in CS, CE, EE, or related field.
• Prior experience at WPAFB, working with Intelligence Community models and all-source analysis.
• Familiarity with radars, aircraft, missiles, space vehicles, and tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and Simulink Coder.
