Job summary

Rocket Lab is seeking an AFP Operator at our Space Structures Complex in Middle River to build large carbon fiber fuselage structures using the latest Automated Fiber Placement technologies.

You’ll set up, calibrate, maintain, and operate the AFP machine, collaborate with Engineering and Programming teams, and ensure safety and efficiency on the production floor. The role offers on-site work with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2+ years in machining or composites manufacturing.
• Ability to interpret drawings and GD&T.
• Basic math and measurement skills.
• Familiarity with measurement tools like calipers and micrometers.

Responsibilities

• Set up, calibrate, maintain, and operate AFP machine to manufacture large carbon fiber structures.
• Clean and perform routine maintenance on AFP machine parts and subassemblies.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Programming teams to drive continuous process improvements.
• Work with the facilities team to ensure equipment safety, efficiency, and operation.
• Train on new processes and assist in transitioning new components to AFP manufacturing.
• Load and unload composite tooling and molds from the AFP machine.
• Diagnose defects, perform rework and splice repairs, and manage material loading during lamination.
• Contribute to NCRs and document stoppages and SOPs.
• Provide site-wide build support as needed.
