Job summary

City of Shreveport is seeking a fingerprint technician to process fingerprints, review images, and manage records in a public safety environment. The role includes assisting Livescan agencies, handling external requests, and supporting investigations with accurate data handling.

Candidates should have college-level coursework in fingerprint science or criminal justice, proficiency with AFIS/Livescan, and strong reporting skills. The position offers full-time hours and benefits in Shreveport, LA.

Qualifications

• Two years or more of college credit in Criminal Justice or Fingerprint Science; or two years of experience in fingerprint classification or related fingerprint science; or 4 years in law enforcement.
• Possession of or ability to obtain access to LLETS; no felony convictions or warrants.
• Knowledge of AFIS, fingerprint pattern classification, and biometric systems.
• Two years of experience using Microsoft Office.
• Excellent written and communications skills; ability to prepare clear reports and correspondence.
• Possess and maintain a valid State ID.

Responsibilities

• Monitor input station to ensure correct fingerprint classification and image quality.
• Override system to correct erroneous information and process prints.
• Compile and disseminate information from criminal justice agencies; maintain access logs for arrest histories.
• Assist Investigations Bureau and Crime Scene Unit operations.
• Process Livescan fingerprint bookings and provide technical assistance to Livescan agencies.
• Fingerprint civilians and civil service applicants; handle external agency record checks.
