Job summary

Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. (Spirit Defense) is seeking a tool engineering professional to design and support airplane manufacturing tooling. You will apply engineering principles to concepts, structural analyses, and tool definitions while improving processes and ensuring compliance with government and company standards.

Qualified candidates typically hold ABET-accredited engineering degrees and 3–5 years of related experience, with the ability to obtain U.S. security clearance.

Qualifications

• This position requires ABET-accredited engineering degree or a Master’s with relevant experience.
• Willingness to obtain U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
• Typically 3–5 years' experience in a related classification/position.

Responsibilities

• Applies engineering principles to design and support airplane manufacturing tools.
• Develops designs including concept, structural and mechanical analyses, and tooling definition.
• Identifies and implements advanced tech to improve manufacturing processes.
• Resolves fabrication and maintenance issues using stress analysis and materials mechanics.
• Performs trade and cost studies and ensures alignment with plans and processes.
• Provides technical leadership on jig/fixturing, drilling, and tooling systems.
• Drives process improvement and interfaces across programs and functions.
• Creates detailed fabrication instructions and tool layouts.
• Generates computer models for tooling and NC data preparation.
• Acts as liaison and provides producibility input for internal/external customers.
• Monitors quality via SPC and verification methods.
• Interacts with manufacturing, product definition, and external customers.
