Job summary

Chromalloy is seeking a Tool Maker to analyze specifications and operate conventional, special-purpose, and numerical-control machines. You will fabricate and repair metalworking tools, jigs, gauges, and hand tools for aerospace components.

Responsibilities include studying drawings, setting up machines, measuring parts, and verifying tolerances. You will collaborate with engineers and production teams to resolve issues and ensure safety with hazardous materials handling.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–2 years of related experience or training.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
• Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on materials or workpieces for subsequent machining.
• Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, shapers, and similar equipment.
• Calculate and set machining controls for speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine-control media.
• Start and observe machine operations, identify malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust controls or control media as needed.
• Verify finished workpieces meet specifications and perform trial runs to confirm machine settings or programmed control data.
• Fit and assemble parts, then verify assembly dimensions and alignment.
• Install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment; test units to confirm functionality and performance.
• Develop specifications from general descriptions and create sketches of parts or products to be fabricated.
• Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, programmers, and others to resolve machining or assembly issues.
• Use a hand truck and/or operate a forklift as needed to transfer hazardous materials within the Chromalloy facility.
