Job Summary

Voyager Technologies is seeking a driven and mission-oriented Engineering Intern / Variable-Hour Aerospace Technician based out of our Folsom, California operations. This role is designed for a motivated candidate actively pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with long-term aspirations toward a Master’s in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. The selected candidate will work full-time during academic breaks and shift to a reduced, part-time schedule during the school year, allowing for full career development without interrupting educational progress.

In this role, the candidate will gain hands‑on experience in the design-through-fabrication continuum of aerospace components—supporting engineering teams from concept and design, through analysis, prototyping, manufacturing, and integration. This is a high‑visibility growth opportunity for a candidate who brings operational discipline, safety awareness, and small‑team leadership from prior service, and who is ready to apply those instincts in a technical engineering environment.

Responsibilities
  • Support mechanical and aerospace engineering teams in design, analysis, and documentation of aerospace components and subsystems
  • Assist in fabrication, assembly, and integration of prototype and production hardware under the direction of senior engineers
  • Participate in design-to-fabrication workflows including CAD modeling, drawing interpretation, and tolerance review
  • Perform routine inspection, measurement, and quality checks on fabricated parts and assemblies
  • Assist in lab and test environments including component build-up, instrumentation setup, and data collection
  • Support configuration management and documentation of engineering work products including manufacturing travelers, inspection records, and assembly procedures
  • Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and laboratory apparatus in a safe and responsible manner
  • Contribute to safety culture, including adherence to facility safety protocols, hazardous material handling procedures, and emergency response standards
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with manufacturing, quality, and systems engineering teams to support program milestones
  • Provide input on process improvements based on hands‑on observations during build and test activities
Required Qualifications
  • Active U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • High school diploma or equivalent; currently enrolled in or accepted to an accredited Bachelor of Science program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related STEM discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in high‑reliability, safety‑critical operations (military, emergency response, aviation, or industrial equivalent)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety in hands‑on environments
  • Ability to follow technical procedures, work instructions, and engineering drawings
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in small team environments
  • Positive, cooperative, self‑motivated, and professional behavior
  • Ability to commit to a full‑time schedule during academic breaks and a defined reduced schedule during active academic terms
Preferred Qualifications
  • Military background with experience in airfield, maintenance, logistics, or technical operations (preferred but not required)
  • Familiarity with mechanical or aerospace systems, components, or propulsion hardware
  • Exposure to basic CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or equivalent)
  • Any prior internship, co‑op, vocational, or applied engineering lab experience
  • NFPA, ARFF, NIMS, or equivalent safety/operations certifications (directly transferable to lab and facility safety compliance)
  • Long‑term aspiration toward a Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
Skills – Required
  • Ability to read and follow technical work instructions, procedures, and basic engineering drawings
  • Manual dexterity and hands‑on aptitude for precision assembly and component handling
