The Manufacturing Engineer I is responsible for supporting manufacturing process development, documentation, assembly operations, and quality compliance across inert electromechanical assemblies and energetic solid rocket motor (SRM) manufacturing operations.

This is an entry-level opportunity designed to develop technical competency across Voyager's manufacturing operations through hands-on experience, structured on-the-job training, and mentorship from senior manufacturing engineers. Scope includes Divert Attitude Control System (DACS) electromechanical assembly processes as well as energetic propellant manufacturing operations.

In this role, the essential functions are:
  • Support manufacturing process development for inert DACS electromechanical assemblies and energetic SRM manufacturing operations under the direction of senior manufacturing engineers.
  • Develop, write, and maintain work instructions, assembly travelers, process specifications, and manufacturing documentation for inert and live assembly operations.
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM&A), production readiness reviews (PRR), and program milestone activities, identifying and communicating manufacturability considerations.
  • Support tooling activities, including requirements identification, receiving inspection participation, and maintenance documentation.
  • Monitor process variables, collect and summarize manufacturing data, and identify and 20-30% deviations from established process control points.
  • Support root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations for manufacturing non-conformances and contribute to process improvement activities.
  • Maintain configuration management and documentation traceability for manufacturing artifacts, working with quality engineering to correctly apply applicable quality requirements.
  • Provide hands-on manufacturing engineering support across Folsom and Reno operations, developing technical competency across inert electromechanical and energetic SRM manufacturing processes.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university, with 0-2 years of manufacturing engineering or relevant internship/co-op experience. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Foundational understanding of manufacturing processes, mechanical assembly operations, and precision hardware, with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and apply basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, organized technical documentation, including work instructions, process summaries, and engineering reports.
  • Familiarity with CAD viewing tools such as SolidWorks, CREO, or equivalent, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating effectively across engineering disciplines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Positive, cooperative, self-motivated, and professional approach, with a willingness to contribute as necessary to support manufacturing and program objectives.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship, co-op, project, or other experience within an aerospace, defense, or manufacturing environment, particularly exposure to solid rocket motor manufacturing, propulsion systems, or energetic materials.
  • Familiarity with aerospace/manufacturing quality and continuous improvement principles, including AS9100 or ISO 9001, lean manufacturing concepts, and root cause analysis tools such as 5-Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa, or 8D.
Travel, Physical and/or Government Mandated Requirements
  • Travel approximately 20-30%, primarily between Folsom, CA and Reno, NV, to support development operations and assembly activities. [HIGHLIGHT: The source does not explicitly confirm whether overnight travel is required.]
