Acron Aviation in Grand Rapids, Michigan is seeking a Sustaining Engineer Intern to join our Recorders Engineering Team. Qualifications

• This position requires pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Must be able to work onsite in Grand Rapids, Michigan during the internship.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to analyze technical information and document findings clearly and accurately.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• This role may involve access to information subject to U.S. export control laws; must qualify as a US Person.

Responsibilities

• Update and maintain mechanical drawings, CAD models, and engineering documentation to reflect changes and as-built configurations.
• Support sustaining engineering activities related to housings, enclosures, brackets, and structural assemblies.
• Assist with development and documentation of product housings and interfaces, including fit and electrical considerations.
• Support analysis and documentation for vacuum-jacketed designs and insulation concepts.
• Revise and maintain mechanical BOMs, specifications, and released production drawings.
• Research historical design decisions by reviewing change records, specs, tests, and legacy docs.
• Capture design rationale, assumptions, and constraints to aid long-term support.
• Organize and improve engineering documentation within configuration/document control systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify design intent and resolve gaps.
• Support production activities, problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives.
