Job summary

Whisper Aero in Tennessee is seeking a Structures Engineer to advance next-generation propulsion systems. You will perform structural design, analysis, and optimization, collaborating with the Structures Lead, Chief Engineer, and hardware team.

The role requires a BS in mechanical/aerospace/civil engineering, 5+ years of experience, and hands-on experience with FEA (NX/Nastran, ANSYS, Abaqus), CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, civil engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of related experience (3 years with a Master's, 1 year with a PhD).
• Proficiency in statics, solid mechanics, and free-body diagrams.
• Experience with finite element modeling (NX/Nastran, ANSYS, Abaqus).
• Skilled in a 3D CAD package (SolidWorks, NX, CATIA V5, Fusion 360).
• Basic understanding of metallic and composite materials manufacturing.
• Experience in programming (Python, Julia, VBA, Matlab).

Responsibilities

• Participate in and present during reviews; provide design feedback.
• Use finite element analysis to evaluate strength, deflection, vibration, fatigue life.
• Perform structural layouts and sizing for future design concepts.
• Provide testing support for flight projects and proposals.
• Provide structural knowledge to project personnel and contractors.
• Develop allowables from novel materials.
• Author analysis tools for sizing parts (scripts, spreadsheets).
• Provide support to customers for product integration issues.
• Write technical reports for peer review.
