Job summary

RTCA, a precision aerospace and defense manufacturer, seeks a Quality Inspector for our Rockford, MI site to perform inspections of raw materials, in-process parts, and finished components according to drawings and specifications.

You will use micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other precision instruments, interpret ASME Y14.5 GD&T, verify AS9100/ISO standards, and maintain accurate documentation while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Experience in quality inspection within aerospace, precision machining, or manufacturing.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Working knowledge of AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 quality management systems.
• Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
• Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and related tools.
• Understanding of inspection methods, measurement techniques, and basic shop math.
• Ability to document inspections accurately and clearly.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication with cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.

Responsibilities

• Working a full-time, onsite position at our Rockford, MI location.
• Perform dimensional and visual inspections on raw materials, in-process parts, assemblies, and finished components.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, models, specifications, and work instructions per ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
• Verify product conformity to customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements including AS9100 and ISO standards.
• Utilize inspection equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, surface plates, and optical comparators.
• Verify calibration status and proper handling of inspection tools and equipment.
• Complete and maintain accurate inspection records, traceability documentation, and FAIRs.
• Support or perform First Article Inspection (FAI) activities and AS9102 documentation.
• Identify and communicate nonconforming conditions with containment and resolution actions.
• Participate in root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain inspection staging areas, documentation control, and part traceability.
• Communicate findings and status clearly to internal teams and customers as needed.
• Assist with audits, customer visits, and quality system compliance activities.
• Train or mentor other inspectors based on experience.
• Adhere to safety policies and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
