Job summary

RTX Raytheon is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in an onsite role in West Des Moines. You will own mechanical design activities from concept through production, using SolidWorks and ANSYS Workbench to validate robust designs and predict performance.

The position requires a STEM degree with 5+ years of relevant experience (or an advanced degree with 3+ years; without a degree, 9 years). Collaboration with manufacturing and IPTs is essential to meet cost and quality targets.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a STEM degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 3+ years; without a degree, 9 years of experience.
• Experience applying DFMA to mechanical designs and interpreting GD&T.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and perform fatigue life assessments.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and ANSYS Workbench for design validation.

Responsibilities

• Design and review mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks, balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, safety, and quality requirements.
• Perform thermal and structural analyses using ANSYS Workbench to evaluate product performance and support design decisions.
• Conduct fatigue and durability assessments, including stress-life and strain-life methodologies, to develop product life predictions.
• Develop technical documentation and engineering reports and participate in design reviews.
• Collaborate within Integrated Project Teams to develop cost-effective designs meeting customer and quality standards.
