Job summary

Shield AI seeks a Materials and Failure Analysis (MFA) Engineer to drive failure investigations and materials characterization for the XBAT vehicle. You will partner with design, manufacturing, and supply chain to advance materials development and define corrective actions.

You will work hands-on in a lab using SEM, EDS, X-ray, and microscopy, establish SOPs, and analyze metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites to influence material selection and design updates across the program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Chemical Engineering; Master’s preferred.
• Experience with failure analysis and materials characterization; electronics focus preferred.
• Hands-on lab experience with SEM, X-ray, microscopy, and related instruments.
• Familiarity with IPC, JEDEC, MIL, ASTM standards is desirable.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate and improve materials and failure investigation lab facilities.
• Develop lab procedures for materials characterization and failure analysis.
• Perform failure analysis on electronic components and materials.
• Report results to stakeholders and drive corrective actions.
• Coordinate with design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
• Educate teams on materials science fundamentals to improve decisions.
