ALTEN Technology USA is seeking a Ground Test Manufacturing Engineer to design and optimize manufacturing processes for composite parts used in engine test equipment.

You will develop tooling, support production, and help implement cost-effective, high-quality manufacturing for multi-month build schedules, with emphasis on problem solving and applying advanced composites knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher in STEM with 10+ years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with 8+ years of related work.
  • Expertise in GD&T and print interpretation required.
  • Experience with mechanical manufacturing processes (machining, joints, welding) in aerospace/defense/automotive.
  • Experience with fiber-reinforced composites (fiberglass, aramid, carbon prepregs) and related curing technologies.
  • Ability to identify problems, drive solutions, and own projects end-to-end.

Responsibilities

  • Create manufacturing instructions, BOMs, and outside purchase specs from drawings.
  • Develop and improve processes and tooling for composite parts.
  • Collaborate with production to ensure manufacturability and drive continuous improvement.
  • Train staff in new processes and techniques.
  • Provide manufacturing support to design through all development phases, including validation and production.

Job Description:
  • ALTEN Technology is excited to announce an opening for a Ground Test Manufacturing Engineer.
  • This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a specialized field within engine design and operations.
  • Ground Test Division designs, manufactures and services test equipment to support development and aftermarket engine programs for all three major engine manufacturers.
  • This work involves design and manufacture of final level assemblies and all subcomponents and details.
  • As a Ground Test Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for developing manufacturing processes and tooling design for composite parts fabrication using approved models and drawings.
  • You will support production activities, troubleshoot issues, and implement process improvements to ensure efficient and high-quality manufacturing for the three to six month build schedules.
  • You may be tasked with evaluating any damage from normal operations by our customers and developing repairs to restore the assembly or components to original or acceptable requirements.
What You Will Do:
  • Create written and illustrated manufacturinginstructions, bills of material and outside purchase specifications per engineering drawings/specifications.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes and tooling for composite parts
  • Work with production teams to ensure manufacturability and suggest improvements.
  • Train production staffinnew processes and techniques.
  • Providingmanufacturing support todesign throughout conceptual, preliminary,anddetailed design phases,to includevalidation,customer approval, manufacturing, and operational service.
  • Support design withmaterialselectionbased onusability and compatibility with current processes and equipment.
  • Reviewanddispositionnonconforming materialto technicalrequirements.
  • Developandvalidaterepairprocessesin conjunction withdesignteam.
  • Contribute to Cost ofPoorQualityefforts, challenge existing processes, and drive improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with established engineering methodologies
  • Usesound engineeringjudgment, technical expertise, and data analysisto make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems.
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • AScience, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum10years prior relevant experience
  • AScience, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)Advanced Degree in a related fieldand minimum8years experience
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills
  • Strong project ownership, execution, and proactive mentalities
  • Experience with mechanicalmanufacturing processes(machining, joints, fasteners, welding) in relevant industry positions (aerospace, defense, automotive or similar)
  • Experience with GD&Tand print interpretation.
  • Experience with fiber-reinforced polymer composites, specifically: fiberglass, aramid, and/or carbon prepreg and wet layup (especially epoxy resin systems)
  • Experience in advanced Composite and Bonded Structuresmanufacturing(ie. Fiber Reinforcement,Curing, Ovens and Autoclaves, Adhesives, Surface Preparation,etc.)
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Computer Aided DesignSoftware experience: Creo / Windchill (Preferred) orNX/FiberSIM/TeamCenter
  • Familiarity with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques, such as ultrasonic testing, eddy current, FPI, camera optics, X-ray and othersused in aerospace.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing & assembly
  • Understanding of manufacturing cost and reproducibility
  • Experience withimplementation of PFMEAs
