  • Investigates and troubleshoots process issues.
  • Provides technical support to operations.
  • Consult with outside engineering entities when required to resolve issues.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal and external vendors during tooling fabrication.
  • Analyze process data in support of continuous improvement.

Job Description:



  • ALTEN Technology is excited to announce an opening for a Tooling Design Engineer.

  • The role will be responsible for day-to-day tooling design and development support for production tooling aids.

  • The focus is on designing and developing tools, tooling, gauges, and tooling production aids to support new and existing production processes.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Design and develop new tools, tooling, gauging, and other tooling aids to support production operations.

  • Create designs and drawings using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.

  • Analize tooling performance and adjust designs accordingly to improve performance.

  • Design tooling for CNC machining, turning, and additive manufacturing methods.

  • Review technical manufacturing specifications to determine tooling requirements.

  • Design for ergonomics when appropriate

  • Collaborate with team members to develop design solutions for production support.

  • Evaluate tooling/gauge/aid performance to determine for-use worthiness.

  • Investigates and troubleshoots process issues.

  • Provides technical support to operations.

  • Consult with outside engineering entities when required to resolve issues.

Basic Qualifications:



  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of tooling design experience

  • 10 years of experience using 3D modeling CAD software

  • Experience working with CAD assemblies.

  • Good understanding of Engineering Drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

  • Strong analytical skills using appropriate logic and reasoning for design solutions.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Strong creativity and innovation skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft O365 suite.

  • US. citizenship is required for this position; only U.S. citizens are authorized to access and handle sensitive data required to support our government and military programs.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Aerospace Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) experience

  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, experience with Kaizen events or experience with a continuous improvement program (6s, etc.).

  • Experience with composite materials
