Job summary

Blue Origin in Washington state seeks an experienced machining operations leader to oversee day-to-day machine shop activities and drive on-time delivery for spaceflight components. You will mentor staff, manage schedules, and ensure adherence to 5S, Lean, and safety programs while supporting design-for-manufacturing and job planning processes.

Qualifications

• 4 years minimum of leadership experience.
• 7 years minimum experience in machining aerospace components.
• Root cause and corrective action analysis experience.
• Familiar with KPI metrics.
• Excellent blue print reading skills including GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard.
• Strong communication skills with a heavy customer focus.
• Must have a continuous improvement mindset.
• Clear understanding of production versus development environments.

Responsibilities

• Ownership of machine shop personnel and day-to-day operations and execution.
• Conduct performance reviews.
• Establish work station assignments, training, overtime, and back-up for absent employees.
• Maintain and communicate machine shop schedule status to meet customer expectations.
• Provide first level escalation support to employees regarding HR issues.
• Identify Continuous Improvement opportunities and implement changes to reduce cycle and setup times.
• Maintain calibration program for shop measuring equipment.
• Maintain all shop programs (5S, Lean, Cleaning, Safety).
• Ensure team follows work instructions, quality requirements and processes.
• Record machine shop staff data (clock-in/clock-out).
• Provide training and mentorship to team members; develop early career staff.
• Ensure startup readiness for production.
• Maintain shop organization, safety, and cleanliness.
• Support design for manufacturing and provide job planning estimates.
• Conduct interviews and provide hiring recommendations.
