HX5, LLC is seeking an Aerospace Cybersecurity Systems Engineer to join our Brook Park, Ohio team in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center. The SR-1 Freedom Nuclear Power Module program requires rigorous systems engineering and external interface management.

The role focuses on defining interfaces, leading interface documentation, coordinating with NASA and industry partners, and mitigating risks to enable future high-power space missions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree with 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Master of Science degree with 6–15 years of relevant experience.
• PhD with 0–3 years of relevant experience.

HX5 is currently seeking an Aerospace Cybersecurity Systems Engineer to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will support the Space Reactor-1 (SR-1) Freedom Nuclear Power Module (NPM) for Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) efforts. SR-1 is the planned NASA spacecraft that will demonstrate nuclear electric propulsion and provide a path to future higher power and longer duration missions, which will be required for missions to Mars.

The selected candidate will act as the SR-1 NPM External Interfaces Management technical lead, with the primary responsibilities:

• Ensure complete and traceable inter-contractor interfaces and external systems interfaces.
• Develop Interface Definition Documents (IDD) and Interface Requirements Documents (IRD)
• Coordinate interface changes with NASA, industry partners, and vendor suppliers through regular interface working group meetings
• Track interface risks and issues for timely resolution through the lead systems engineer
• Maintain insight to NPM interface development and management
• Interface to the mission level interface development and management planning efforts

The selected candidate will support the SR-1 NPM Lead Systems Engineer, and this effort is monitored by the Science and Space Technology Systems Branch at NASA GRC, which provides leadership in systems engineering to enable science and space technology programs and projects.

Required Skills

• Experience with defining spacecraft interfaces and their management
• Knowledge or experience with spacecraft integration at the system and subsystems levels
• Knowledge or experience with formal systems engineering processes
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with the NASA team and their industry partners
• Highly motivated and able to work independently in a high-paced dynamic environment
• Committed to successful collaboration with the NASA team and industry partners

Desired Skills

• Experience with NASA systems engineering for spacecraft hardware and specifically with NPR 7123.1
• Experience with complete life-cycle for a space flight project
• Experience with a NASA spaceflight hardware project
• Experience working with NASA

Education/Experience

Completed at least a Bachelor of Science degree, from an accredited program, with the following education and experience:

• Bachelor of Science degree and ten (10) or more years of relevant experience
• Master of Science degree and six (6) to fifteen (15) years of relevant experience
• Ph D. and zero (0) to three (3) years of relevant experience

Other Position Requirements

• Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
• Must have a security clearance or the ability to obtain security clearance.
