Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Supplier Development Engineer for Mechanical Hardware & Fasteners to own the fastener commodity from supplier selection through high-volume production. You will work on aerospace-grade hardware, drive process improvements, and lead containment of nonconforming parts.

The role requires hands-on experience with fasteners and precision hardware, plus the ability to travel up to 75% to meet suppliers and production needs on the Starship program.

Qualifications

• Hands-on familiarity with mechanical fasteners and joining hardware.
• Experience with fastener/manufacturing processes and quality systems.
• Ability to read engineering drawings (GD&T) and collaborate with design.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical hardware commodity for Starship: fasteners, springs, fittings, and related devices from supplier selection through rate production.
• Serve as primary technical contact for parts and suppliers; resolve manufacturing, quality, and capacity issues.
• Lead new product introduction (NPI) and transfers for fastener products; qualify suppliers and ramp production.
• Drive PPAP, FAIR, and capability studies to prove critical characteristics before hardware reaches the vehicle.
• Lead containment on nonconforming hardware; define scope and disposition actions.
• Root-cause defects at supplier or company; address heat treat, coatings, threading, and materials issues.
• Collaborate with design/manufacturing to improve part designs for manufacturability and cost.
• Assess supplier capability and travel to suppliers up to 50-75% as needed.
