Job summary

Astrion is seeking a Chemist III to support the Laboratory Support Services and Operations (LASSO) II contract at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, FL. This full-time, second-shift position requires initial training on the first shift to achieve full proficiency with procedures, equipment, and safety requirements.

Based on mission needs, you may occasionally provide continued or periodic support to the first shift.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
• 7 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses or experiments in laboratories for quality or process control or to develop new products or knowledge.
• Develop and implement analytical methods for chemical and physical testing of trace contaminants in various matrices to meet specification standards.
• Assist laboratory activities in determining analytical and intricate testing of aerospace systems and commodities.
• Perform laboratory investigations, troubleshoot analytical problems and transfer analytical methods.
• Train Laboratory Technicians to approved Technical Operating Procedures.
• Serve as a Safety Technical Director on approval of the Operations Laboratory Manager.
• Act as Hazardous Waste Management POC or Internal Compliance Auditor as directed by management.
• Implement the Business System Program and related compliance standards.
• Provide field support of extraordinary or unusual nature.
• Write analytical laboratory procedures, protocols and compliance documents.
• Participate in safety programs, perform instrument audits and maintain a safe laboratory environment.
• Coordinate and provide technical assistance to NASA/Contractor personnel.
