Job description

Job Title: Aerospace Application Engineer

Department: Corporate

Reports to: Vice President Engineering & Technology

Classification: Exempt

Location: Northeast US

Travel: Yes

Job Summary: As an Aerospace Applications Engineer at GWS Tool Group, you will play a critical role in delivering our customers competitive engineered solutions through industry leading products and processes which will lower customers total cost and secure sustainable aftermarket sales growth. You will apply tools, techniques, and processes from standardized and/or optimized processing methods. The position will involve working across multifunctional teams to support sales growth.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Take lead, manage and/or support customer projects.
  2. Pre-sales activities include analyzing customer’s technical needs and suggesting solutions.
  3. Post-sales activities include resolving implementation problems and conducting training.
  4. Analyze customers’ technical needs, develop proposals outlining how the organization’s products and services can meet their needs.
  5. Provide customers with documentation such as cycle times, simulations, cutting data, etc.
  6. Respond to more complex technical questions regarding GWS Tool Group’s products.
  7. Develop and deliver training to educate internal employees and customers.
  8. Troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve technical problems that arise during or after implementation.
  9. Develop test applications used for in-house testing, including customer-specific components and representative features.
  10. Maintain direct contact with sales, production and customers as necessary to ensure effective levels of communication.
  11. Actively support best practice sharing and network efficiency related to our resources to include tooling, application, processing, machining and cutting data.
  12. Explore, identify, and develop new products and application areas.
  13. Participate in customer/component mapping and GAP analysis.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
  2. Proven experience (5 years) in aerospace manufacturing.
  3. Advanced application knowledge and experience in metal cutting within the aerospace industry on key aerospace components.
  4. Desired CAD/CAM skills - AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Siemens NX and/or Mastercam.
  5. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and implement process improvements.
  6. Analytical and problem-solving skills of basic manufacturing processes.
  7. Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  9. Experience in the manufacturing industry or similar environments is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds at a time.
  2. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  3. Ability to drive or fly to all facilities.

Other Information:

  1. Travel is required (desired 30%), domestic and international.
