Job summary

Rocket EMS in Santa Clara is seeking an experienced 2D X-Ray Inspection Technician to support IPC Class 3 aerospace PCBA production. You will operate 2D X-ray equipment, interpret images, document results, and ensure compliance with customer procedures and workmanship standards.

The role requires hands-on experience with X-ray/AXI equipment, knowledge of PCB assemblies and common defects, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams under AS9100 standards.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience in PCBA inspection or a closely related technical role.
• Hands-on experience operating 2D X-ray, AXI, AOI, or similar inspection equipment.
• Working knowledge of PCB assemblies, component packages, solder joints, SMT processes and defects.
• Ability to interpret X-ray images on dense, multilayer, high-reliability assemblies.
• Familiarity with IPC-A-610 Class 3; J-STD-001 Class 3 preferred.
• Experience in AS9100, aerospace/defense or regulated environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 2D X-ray inspection equipment for various inspections of PCBAs.
• Select inspection programs and optimize imaging parameters for clear images.
• Inspect BGAs, LGAs, QFNs, bottom-terminated parts and other joints.
• Evaluate for solder bridges, opens, voiding, misalignment and defects.
• Record inspection results and traceability in quality systems.
• Coordinate with Quality, Process, SMT and Rework teams for root-cause work.
• Assist with defect validation after rework and corrective actions.
• Maintain inspection records and ensure adherence to aerospace documentation.
• Report malfunctions or image-quality issues and follow safety requirements.
