Job summary

GM Motorsports is seeking a Summer Intern to contribute to aerodynamic development. Projects may involve CFD, testing, automation, data processing, ML, or AI applications for engineering.

Applicants should be pursuing a graduate degree in physics, math, aerospace or related fields, and be available for full-time hours during the summer, starting in 2027. Hybrid work with exposure to world-class motorsport programs is offered.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of a graduate degree in physics, mathematics, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computational science, or related field.
• Must be graduating after September 2027 or beyond
• Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer
• Demonstrated experience with CFD surrogate models, reduced-order models, or data-driven prediction methods
• Strong foundation in mechanical design, aerodynamics, CFD, ML, or scientific computing
• Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
• Ability to communicate complex findings clearly to diverse audiences

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve CFD workflows across CAD prep, geometry cleanup, meshing, solver, post-processing, and automated reporting.
• Develop tools for wind-tunnel aerodynamic testing including planning, instrumentation, data acquisition, and data processing.
• Develop and validate ML or surrogate models to improve aerodynamic performance prediction and flow-field inference.
• Create AI-enabled tools to improve engineering productivity and decision-making.
• Collaborate with engineers to define requirements, evaluate results, document methods, and communicate recommendations.
• Projects will be defined by team needs and candidate's interests and development goals.
