This position is 100% on-site in various towns and cities across Middlesex County, CT, including the Middletown and Hartford areas.

Compensation

  • Entry-Level Groundman: $25.00 – $28.00 per hour
  • Experienced Lineman (2+ years): $28.00 – $35.00 per hour

Job Overview

We are seeking motivated individuals ranging from recent lineman school graduates to experienced linemen with 2+ years of field experience to support the installation and maintenance of new telecommunications fiber networks. This is an excellent opportunity to grow your career in a high-demand industry with a company that values training, safety, and career advancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, remove, maintain, relocate, and repair aerial and underground fiber optic cables, drop lines, and related telecommunications hardware.
  • Inspect, test, monitor, and adjust telecommunication transmission lines, cables, and distribution systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Climb and work at heights on poles, ladders, or other elevated structures, and occasionally operate in confined spaces.
  • Follow all prescribed safety procedures and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Ensure work meets industry standards and is performed with technical reliability, timeliness, and cost-efficiency.
  • Provide hands-on support to line crews throughout all phases of construction, maintenance, and restoration activities.
  • Direct and manage traffic flow safely at job sites in compliance with local Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks and ensure the timely completion of work assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a communications, aerial, or telecommunications lineman, with the ability to detect power space violations and safety hazards.
  • Ability to climb poles using climbing gear (e.g., pole climber gaffs) to reach cable heights.
  • Proficient in pulling and lashing fiber optic cables.
  • Capable of performing physically demanding labor, including walking on uneven terrain, working in confined spaces, and extended manual tasks.
  • Physically fit to perform heavy lifting and labor-intensive work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, climbing gear, and specialized equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate mechanized equipment such as bucket trucks, when necessary.
  • Comfortable working aloft using ladders, bucket trucks, and climbing poles up to 40 feet in height.
  • Willingness to work overtime on weekdays and weekends and travel as project needs require.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Adherence to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and understand English fluently and clearly to ensure safe communication on the job site.
  • A pre-employment, on-site certification will be required. The applicant must successfully show that they can complete the duties as described within this document to the satisfaction of the construction supervision.
  • Successful candidates will be required to maintain a current valid driver's license with a clean MVR is required.
  • Successful candidates will be subject to complete and maintain a successful pre-employment drug and alcohol test, random testing and MVR check will be completed after date of hire.

Physical & Functional Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift, dig, reach, and carry heavy objects on a regular basis.
  • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods of time.
  • Must possess manual dexterity in hands, fingers, and arms to effectively operate power tools, controls, and specialized equipment.
  • Must meet specific vision requirements, including:
    • Close vision
    • Color vision
    • Peripheral vision
    • Depth perception
    • Ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to safely climb ladders, scaffolding, or work from aerial lifts.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle safely and responsibly as part of daily job duties.
  • Regular ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift or transport equipment weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Must be able to navigate job sites, including moving between varying terrain and locations within the work environment.
