Job summary

St. John’s Community Health in Los Angeles is seeking a Government Affairs & Communications Coordinator to support government affairs, advocacy, community engagement, and communications initiatives, turning policy priorities into clear messages and public materials.

You will work with elected officials, community partners, and internal leaders on campaigns, briefings, newsletters, social media content, and events, managing multiple projects while upholding St. John’s processes and values.

Qualifications

• Strong writing, editing, research, and communication skills.
• Experience in government affairs, public affairs, communications, advocacy, community engagement, political work, or a related field.
• Ability to understand policy issues and explain them in clear language.
• Strong organization and project-management skills.
• Ability to work with elected officials, community partners, media, staff, and senior leadership.
• Comfortable taking initiative and following organizational processes and approvals.

Responsibilities

• Track local, county, state, and federal policy issues affecting St. John’s and its patients.
• Research legislation, government actions, funding, and policy proposals.
• Prepare briefing memos, talking points, materials for Chief Government Affairs & Community Relations Officer, and other leaders.
• Support meetings with elected officials, agencies, and stakeholders.
• Help track follow-up items, deadlines, and next steps from government meetings.
• Support advocacy campaigns related to health care access and health equity.
