Subsurface Well Data Integration Specialist
The Subsurface Well Data Integration Specialist is a Houston-based member of the Technical Systems & Data organization and a core part of the Subsurface Data Management team. The position serves as the subject‑matter expert, integration specialist, and primary point of contact for subsurface well master data management (WMDM). Responsibilities include creating, populating, integrating, and maintaining the quality of master databases for well surface and subsurface data, supporting the transition to a cloud‑native data platform, and ensuring alignment with OSDU and AWS migration initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate business and subsurface domain requirements into scalable, secure, and cloud‑optimized data and integration architectures.
- Drive adoption of OSDU data structures across exploration, drilling, production, and reservoir engineering domains.
- Lead integration of existing Petrotechnical and subsurface systems (Petrel, OpenWorks, Studio) with OSDU‑compliant platforms.
- Integrate and enhance well data types into OpenWorks R5000 and Petrel Studio repositories using data management tools such as Schlumberger's InnerLogix Suite.
- Design solutions based on major cloud providers (AWS), prioritizing OSDU‑supported clouds.
- Establish and enforce best practices for data modeling, metadata tagging, identity and access management (IAM), and API security.
- Monitor, support, and maintain the Well Data Management Framework to ensure acceptable data quality levels; report non‑compliance areas.
- Process exception and correction reports on a scheduled basis using Data Quality Standards and propose process enhancements.
- Coordinate with stakeholders and Data Advisors to correct data at the source and confirm accuracy in project databases.
- Research and resolve complex data issues for domestic and international wells, coordinating with extended Data Management teams for source-level fixes.
- Monitor and validate petrophysical interpretations loaded into working projects via automation for both domestic and international assets.
- Manage data for trade wells and Operated‑by‑Others (OBO) wells, making it available to Geoscience teams to reduce third‑party data purchases.
- Support OpenWorks project administration and automation troubleshooting across Permian, Rockies, GOM, International Exploration, International Assets, and Low Carbon Venture; lead legacy data cleanup efforts.
- Liaise with the Data Management team to ensure critical drilling and completions data are integrated into master and project databases.
- Load, validate, and integrate WMDM data into project databases on scheduled and on‑demand basis; participate in related projects.
- Support integration of existing subsurface systems with OSDU‑compliant, AWS‑cloud‑based platforms as part of the broader data modernization roadmap.
- Assist in the transition from legacy InnerLogix data structures to a microservice‑based platform, preserving relationship context, lineage, and data quality during migration.
- Keep abreast of industry trends in surface and subsurface well master data management and provide ongoing guidance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Geoscience, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience managing oil and gas geoscience, drilling, and engineering technical data.
- 10+ years of experience loading and managing well data in Landmark R5000, Petrel Studio, or similar subsurface software.
- Advanced knowledge of well data generated during planning, drilling, logging, and completion operations.
- Expertise in loading and validating well data, including surface locations, elevation references, and subsurface data such as deviation surveys and log curves.
- Excellent understanding of master data management (MDM) concepts for technical data.
- Experience defining ETL/DQM business rules for toolkits such as InnerLogix.
- Experience implementing and maintaining well master data management programs.
- Excellent knowledge of geodetics and units of measure used with well surface and subsurface data.

- Familiarity with graph‑based data platforms and microservice architectures (Neo4j, Lucene) is a plus.
- Understanding of Six Sigma data quality methodologies is a plus.
- Behavioral: Ability to lead initiatives, project teams, and influence stakeholder buy‑in; excellent analytical, problem‑solving, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Self‑driven, multitasker who delivers on commitments; open‑minded and able to identify new methodologies and technologies.
- Excellent team player able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong vendor management and ability to build win‑win relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
