- Target-State Architecture: Own and evolve the target-state architecture across commerce, inventory/order management, and finance systems — balancing mainframe systems of record against a growing SaaS and cloud footprint.
- Stakeholder Partnership: Partner with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to translate roadmaps into architecture decisions, reference designs, and build-vs-buy recommendations.
- Architectural Oversight: Provide architectural oversight and design review for major initiatives, from early scoping through implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Roadmap Leadership
- Target-State Architecture: Own and evolve the target-state architecture across commerce, inventory/order management, and finance systems — balancing mainframe systems of record against a growing SaaS and cloud footprint.
- Stakeholder Partnership: Partner with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to translate roadmaps into architecture decisions, reference designs, and build-vs-buy recommendations.
- Architectural Oversight: Provide architectural oversight and design review for major initiatives, from early scoping through implementation.
Integration & Platform Governance
- Integration Standards: Set and govern integration standards (API, event-driven, iPaaS, batch/EDI) so new systems connect through consistent, supportable patterns rather than one-off point-to-point links.
- Vendor & Technology Evaluation: Evaluate new vendors, platforms, and technologies (commerce, integration, data) against the existing estate and long-term strategy.
Documentation & Risk Management
- Architecture Documentation: Maintain and communicate current- and future-state architecture diagrams, data flow maps, and technology inventories for the commerce estate.
- Risk & Technical Debt: Identify architectural risk — single points of failure, unsupported integrations, technical debt — and drive remediation plans with clear priority and business justification.
Qualifications & Tech Stack
Education & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience: 10+ years in enterprise or solutions architecture roles, including at least 3 years focused on retail, commerce, or supply chain systems.
- Legacy-to-Modern Integration: Demonstrated experience architecting integrations between legacy/mainframe systems of record and modern SaaS or cloud-native applications.
- B2B & B2C Commerce: Experience architecting for both B2B and B2C e-commerce environments, including order, inventory, and pricing data flows.
Technical Skills
- Integration Stack: Working knowledge of integration patterns and tooling: API management, iPaaS, ETL/data pipelines, and message and event brokers.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of documenting architecture for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Skills
- Integration Platforms: Experience with Mulesoft, Azure API Management, Azure Data Factory, or comparable iPaaS/ETL tooling.
- Enterprise Applications & Data Platforms: Familiarity with Salesforce (CRM or Data Cloud), Snowflake, or similar CRM and data platform ecosystems, as well as enterprise applications such as Salesforce and Oracle Fusion.
- Mainframe Modernization: Exposure to mainframe modernization or coexistence strategies — API-enabling legacy systems without a full rip-and-replace.
- Multi-Platform Commerce: Experience supporting multiple concurrent commerce platforms (e.g., a phased migration or multi-brand storefront environment).
- EDI & VAN Integration: Familiarity with EDI (customer and vendor) and value-added network (VAN) integration models.
- Architecture Frameworks: TOGAF, Zachman, or similar enterprise architecture framework experience or certification.
- Development Background: .NET or Java development experience, sufficient to review or prototype integration and API code.
- Industry Experience: Retail or specialty retail industry experience strongly preferred.
