Job summary

Keck Hospital of USC in California seeks an experienced Sterile Processing Technician II to decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, and distribute reusable surgical instruments. You will operate autoclaves, hydrogen peroxide sterilizers, sonic cleaners, and washers, while maintaining documentation and quality control.

The role requires SPC program completion or equivalent, plus certification and safety training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of Sterile Processing or accredited Surgical Technician program; if no completion, 3 years of sterile processing experience.
• At least 1 year of Sterile Processing experience.
• Basic knowledge of computer systems including Windows OS, keyboard and mouse.
• Ability to operate washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Current Sterile Processing Certification (HSPA/CBSPD) or CST/TS-C from CAAHEP/ABHES.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) or obtain within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and package instrument sets following protocols; check functionality and cleanliness.
• Decontaminate and load washers per IFU.
• Operate and maintain sterilization equipment; document QA.
• Dispense sterile instrumentation to OR and maintain inventory.
• Train other technicians and assist in duties.
• Troubleshoot equipment and resolve instrument issues with OR.
• Prepare loads and inspect packaging for proper sterilization.
• Adhere to SPD policies and SOPs.
• Prepare OR carts and update shortage lists.
• Document and log information; use Censitrac.
• Provide guidance to Sterile Processing Tech I as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
