Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field
• Significant programming expertise with C and/or C++
• Significant experience with Linux
• Experience with Python, Shell Scripting, etc.
• Experience with Git or other revision control systems
• Knowledge of software design principles including industry best practices
• Ability to communicate software and algorithm design, complexity analysis, and performance metrics
• Ability to quickly grasp and come up-to-speed with large software code bases
• Experience developing and deploying scientific applications in a cloud native environment

Responsibilities

• Research, design, and develop computer software systems in conjunction with hardware product development
• Design and develop software products for a variety of applications
• Participate in all phases of the software development life cycle: requirements, design, implementation, integration, testing
• Apply CS, engineering, and mathematical analysis to software for the target application
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineers to develop interfaces between hardware and software
• Develop software test procedures, programs, and related documentation
• Communicate changes to practices, processes, and approaches
• Improve processes, systems, or products significantly
• Contribute inputs to new products/processes and implement impactful plans
• Stay current with latest technologies and apply improvements across the mission lifecycle

Rincon Research Corporation is seeking an Advanced Software Engineer to serve as a part of a dynamic team to build a new, end-to-end development program studying, designing, and deploying advanced orbit determination, maneuver planning and constellation management missions for United States Government space systems. RRC is looking for an exceptional experienced software engineer to support this program through all phases of development—from early architecture and System Requirements Review (SRR) through Critical Design Review (CDR), integration, testing, and finally deployment into operational systems. In this role, you will work with other team members to engineer a complex space program. What are the primary responsibilities in the position:

• Responsible for the research, design, and development of computer software systems, in conjunction with hardware product development.
• Primarily responsible for the design and development of software products for a variety of software applications.
• Participates in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, and test of software products.
• Applies computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis concepts and principles in the development of software for the target application.
• Works closely with cross-functional members of the engineering organization to develop and evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, and operational performance requirements and design of the overall system.
• Develops software test procedures, software programs, and related documentation.
• Communicates within and outside of the organization to explain and influence changes to practices, processes and approaches.
• Makes significant improvements in processes, systems, or products.
• Provides input into new products/processes and implements operational plans that have measurable impact on business or functional results.
• Stays current with latest technologies, tools and methodologies and proactively recommends and applies improvements to the full mission lifecycle.

What required background will make you successful:

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field
• Significant programming expertise with C and/or C++
• Significant experience with Linux
• Experience with additional high-level languages (Python, Shell Scripting, etc.)
• Experience with Git or other revision control systems
• Knowledge of software design principles including industry best practices and design trends
• Ability to communicate software and algorithm design, complexity analysis, and performance metrics in written and oral reports
• Ability to quickly grasp and come up-to-speed with large software code bases
• Experience developing and deploying scientific applications in a cloud native environment

Preferred skills:

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering
• Experience accelerating algorithms using CUDA or other parallel processing architectures
• Experience with DSP or communication theory
• Experience with software support of FPGA centric hardware designs
• Significant experience with math intensive software development (DSP, numerical methods, AI/ML, graphics)
