Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services is seeking a rigging and hoisting professional to assemble and position equipment for construction projects. You will load, secure, and direct crane operations, employ knots, and splice rope as part of sling and tackle assemblies.

The role emphasizes attention to safety, proper use of rigging gear, and coordination with crane operators to move heavy loads on varied sites. A basic field background and adherence to procedures are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with prior field experience.
  • Understands basic concepts, practices, and procedures in the field.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Load, transport, unload and select cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves based on load size and weight.
  • Attach pulleys/blocks to overhead structures with bolts/clamps.
  • Secure loads with grappling devices to crane hooks.
  • Direct crane operators or hoisting engineers to ensure safety via hand signals or radios.
  • Set up braces and rigs for hoisting equipment using hand tools.
  • Tie knots and splice rope and wire for slings or tackle.
  • Coordinate hoisting of equipment onto/off ships, railcars, or trucks as needed.
  • Perform basic maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment.
  • Observe all safety rules during hoisting operations.

Job description

SUMMARY Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material to construction project.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Loads, transports, unloads and assists in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
  • Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps.
  • Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes and chains to crane hook.
  • Gives direction to crane operator or hoisting engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled using hand signals, loudspeaker, two-way radio or telephone.
  • Sets up braces and rigs hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches.
  • Has ability to tie various knots.
  • Assembles and disassembles cranes.
  • Splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings or tackle.
  • May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and equipment onto or off ships, railroad, cars or trucks.
  • Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
  • Responsible for observing all safety rules.

Performs other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
