Job summary

VIAVI Solutions is seeking an Advanced Quality Technician in Rapid City, SD to bridge traditional quality control with data analytics. You will investigate nonconformances, review records, and work with Engineering and R&D to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

Responsibilities include NCR processing, QA reporting, and maintaining quality documentation while leveraging SQL, Python, and SPC tools to improve reliability and product quality across manufacturing and test

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
• Experience in aerospace/defense quality functions preferred.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python (or R) for data automation and analysis.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Experience with reliability engineering and SPC is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Duties & Responsibilities

VIAVI Solutions is a global provider of network test, monitoring and assurance solutions. The Advanced Quality Technician bridges traditional quality control (such as manufacturing defect tracking or process KPIs) with modern data analytics, utilizing tools like Python, SQL, and machine learning to predict issues and automate data reliability They perform inspections, coordinate testing activities, document quality observations, and assist in identifying and resolving quality issues. This position serves as a technical resource to project teams while promoting a culture of quality, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, document, and contain nonconforming products.
• Review product history to determine the best course of action in nonconformance resolution and unit disposition
• Review product test records (acceptance criteria and test graphs) in company developed databases
• Work with Engineering & R&D teams to discuss any concerning or unexplainable observations
• Work with rework / repair technicians to get product adequately reworked
• Perform mass- nonconformances and aide in product quarantining and release
• Understand product routers and test sequences so as to allow for efficient rerouting of NC units
• Process NCRs generated by production and distribute documentation as required.
• Help direct improvements from data review that affect overall test and/or manufacturing operations
• Serve as an aide for all personnel regarding NC (Nonconformance) flow and action in ERP
• Maintain accurate inspection reports, quality logs, punch lists, testing records, and project documentation.
• Track quality issues through resolution and verify corrective actions have been completed.
• Assist in maintaining project quality records in accordance with company and contractual requirements.
• Prepare quality reports for project leadership as requested.
• Measure and inspect work-in-process and finished products to ensure compliance with customer specifications

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements

Qualifications

• 1-5+ years of progressive experience in a quality function in the Aerospace/Defense Industry.
• Reliability engineering background with experience in developing reliability tests, analyzing and reporting reliability statistics; expertise in 1 or more reliability software applications
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with diverse teams
• Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and/or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python (or R) for data automation, extraction, and analysis is a plus
• Experience with Six Sigma, root-cause thinking, measurement systems analysis, and SPC is a plus
• Experience in the use of measuring equipment – calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.
• Advanced math skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• Experience in database structure and data flows
