Job description

Position Description:

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Neurology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within a defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician, in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at Froedtert Hospital.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, contributing to program administration, patient care, safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching. The APP provides professional healthcare to patients as directed by a licensed physician and collaborates with Memory program providers and clinical teams to develop independent practice within the programs.

Responsibilities:
  1. Evaluate patients and provide care within the scope of practice outlined by state law in an ambulatory setting.
  2. Perform patient examinations and document patient history.
  3. Order, perform, interpret diagnostic procedures, tests, and treatments; communicate and document findings appropriately.
  4. Evaluate and modify healthcare plans related to patient compliance and outcomes under physician supervision.
  5. Participate in quality assurance activities and/or clinical trials.
  6. Maintain detailed, confidential medical records according to protocols.
  7. Stay informed on current developments in the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant field through educational programs, literature, and professional associations.
  8. Write medication and other orders as required for patient management, as directed by a physician.
Core Responsibilities:
  1. Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifying normal and abnormal findings.
  2. Order, perform, interpret diagnostic procedures, and document accordingly.
  3. Write accurate progress notes, procedure notes, and orders.
  4. Develop and monitor treatment plans.
  5. Educate patients on diseases and treatments.
  6. Perform procedures as trained and credentialed.
  7. Document in EMR and complete necessary documentation.
  8. Collaborate with physicians and healthcare providers.
  9. Educate and counsel patients and families on health issues and preventive care.
  10. Attend required training and meet regulatory requirements.
  11. Stay updated on trends in the field through continuous education.
