About the Role

We are seeking a full‑time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the night shift at Riverside Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery located at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA. The position involves 4 × 10‑hour shifts per week, with the potential to work 3 × 12‑hour shifts at the same facility.

Responsibilities

• Pre‑operative evaluation and preparation of patients for cardiothoracic surgery.
• Assist first and second in cardiac and thoracic surgery.
• Harvest endoscopic vein and radial artery for bypass grafts.
• Bedside assist for robotically assisted cases.
• Round on the SICU and telemetry floors, progressing patients toward discharge.
• Remove chest tubes and pacing wires.
• Provide wound care and perform local anesthesia procedures.
• Conduct new consults and discharge patients, including discharge summaries.
• Manage mechanical assist devices (durable LVAD, Impella, ECMO) – desirable but not required.
• Learn and perform central line and arterial line placement, chest tube placement, and point‑of‑care ultrasound – required.
• Intensive‑care management of postoperative cardiothoracic patients: ventilator management, inotropes, vasoactive medications, circulatory support devices, and point‑of‑care ultrasound/echocardiography.
• Willingness to learn new skills such as circulatory support devices (e.g., ECMO, Impella).

Qualifications

• Nurse Practitioner with a Master’s in Nursing, N.P. license, and N.P. certification; or Physician Assistant with a Master’s degree and P.A. license.
• Current, valid state of Virginia medical license or eligibility for licensure.
• Valid DEA controlled‑substance registration.
• Current BCLS and ACLS certification.
• Ability to make independent clinical decisions, document appropriately, and complete charts timely.
• Experience diagnosing and treating common medical conditions.
• Working knowledge of managed care and Medicare.
• Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor; excellent communication skills; professional appearance.
