Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Tampa General Hospital, in partnership with the University of South Florida (USF), is seeking an experienced and dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Vascular Surgery team and Dialysis Access Program. This position is ideal for motivated individuals committed to delivering excellent patient care in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will play a critical role in the development, implementation, and operation of a new Dialysis Access Program under the direction of the Medical Director. This innovative program will focus on the care of patients with dialysis access issues, working collaboratively with vascular surgery, transplant surgery, and interventional radiology teams. The APP will manage a wide range of conditions, including thrombosed AV fistulas and grafts, failing dialysis access, and non-functioning dialysis catheters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clinical Management: Provide outpatient care for new and established patients with dialysis access issues. Evaluate and manage conditions such as thrombosed AV fistulas, failing grafts, and non-functioning catheters. Develop and oversee pre- and postoperative protocols for patients undergoing surgical and interventional radiology-based hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatments.
  • Program Development and Operations: Collaborate with the Medical Director to design, implement, and oversee the Dialysis Access Program. Ensure seamless coordination of care between vascular surgery, transplant surgery, and interventional radiology teams.
  • Education and Outreach: Educate patients, families, and healthcare providers on dialysis access and management strategies. Serve as a resource for best practices in hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis access care.
  • Research and Quality Improvement: Participate in dialysis-related clinical research and contribute to publications. Collaborate with the Quality Improvement team on projects, data registries, and initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates current knowledge and level of expertise utilizing evidence and theory-based practice, infection control standards and clinical evaluations in providing care to clients in clinic or hospital-based settings, as evidenced by following established protocols.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and electronic medical records (EMR) systems, preferably Epic.
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
  • Outstanding customer service and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Strong organizational and program development capabilities.
  • Familiarity with outpatient care protocols and clinical workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills for patient education and provider collaboration.
  • A commitment to advancing care through research and quality improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) program.
  • Active PA or APRN license in the state of Florida.
  • National certification as a PA-C or Acute Care NP.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a provider in a surgical specialty.
  • Strong clinical skills in patient assessment, critical care, and procedural techniques.
  • Experience with dialysis access management is preferred.
  • Strong clinical skills in the management of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients.
