Job summary

The Cancer Center of South Florida is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to practice at the Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute in collaboration with the Inpatient and Outpatient Benign Hematology Oncology team, delivering high-quality, patient-centered cancer care.

The APP will function as an independent healthcare provider, responsible for comprehensive care, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and care coordination for oncology patients, in a multidisciplinary setting.

Qualifications

• Nurse Practitioner: Master’s or Doctorate from an accredited Nursing Program.
• Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited PA Program.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive or episodic health histories and physical assessments for patients with cancer.
• Establish medical diagnoses alongside physicians.
• Oversee treatment infusions and supportive care needs as appropriate.
• Write orders within scope of practice, including chemotherapy.
• Manage medical and surgical conditions related to oncology therapies.
• Provide direction to clinic staff regarding follow-up care.
• Communicate with referring and primary care providers and care team members.
• Manage independent outpatient clinical practice and coverage for collaborating physicians.
• Document accurately in the EMR according to group practice standards.
• Participate in oncology/hematology clinical quality and research projects.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans and survivorship.
• Participate in on-call coverage including inpatient/outpatient duties and weekends.

The Cancer Center of South Florida is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to practice at the Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute in collaboration with both the Inpatient and Outpatient Benign Hematology Oncology team, delivering high-quality, patient-centered cancer care in a multidisciplinary setting.

The APP will function as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a health team is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both well and ill patients. The APP demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses, specifically cancer patients in active treatment. The APP is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs. The APP demonstrates an advanced level of medical clinical knowledge, communication and interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice. The APP works with administrative, nursing, physician, to assure safe, effective, quality patient care and to promote educational and research missions.

This APP is dedicated to assisting patients and their families as they cope with various forms of cancer. The APP is trained to manage the physical and psychological needs of the oncology patient and his or her family. They will provide primary, acute or tertiary care in a variety of medical settings including but not limited to private practice, hospitals, cancer care centers, and palliative care centers. They may also work collaboratively with educational programs on cancer prevention and similar topics.

CORE ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of patients with acute, chronic and/or potential health problems.


• Establish medical diagnoses alongside the physician.


• May need to oversee treatment infusions and supportive care needs.


• Write specific orders within the limits of the practice agreement/scope of practice including chemotherapy.


• Manages general medical and surgical conditions based on knowledge of the indications, contraindications, side effects, interactions and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities.


• Provide appropriate direction to clinic staff regarding follow up patient care issues.


• Communicates effectively with referring and primary health care providers and other care team members.


• Manage independent outpatient clinical practice and coverage for collaborating physicians.


• Maintains accurate, complete, concise and timely documentation in the electronic medical record according to group practice.


• Participate in medical oncology/hematology specific clinical quality and research projects.


• Educates patients and families on treatment plans, wellness care, and survivorship plans.


• Participates in learning opportunities.


• Participate in and accept on-call coverage assignments, inpatient, outpatient, various oncology specialties, weekend coverage and holiday coverage.

Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Nurse Practitioner: Master’s or Doctorate’s degree from accredited Nursing Program OR


• Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from accredited PA Program.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSE OR REGISTRATION

APRN:

• Active RN and APRN license in State of Florida.


• Active board certification as a NP in: Adult; Adult/Gerontology, Acute Care; Family.

OR

PA:

• Active PA license in State of Florida.


• Active PA board certification.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR ABILITIES

• Oncology experience preferred
