The Cancer Center of South Florida seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute and collaborate with the Inpatient Solid Tumor Oncology team to deliver patient-centered cancer care.

As an independent provider, the APP will assess, diagnose, treat, educate and coordinate care for oncology patients in active treatment, working with physicians, nurses and staff to ensure safe, high-quality care across settings.

Qualifications

  • Active RN and APRN license in Florida.
  • Board certification as an NP in Adult, Adult-Gerontology, Acute Care, or Family.
  • Acute Care Certification required or: 3 years oncology experience with MD verification or AOCNP (500 hours).
  • Active PA license in Florida and PA board certification.
  • Oncology experience preferred; new grads welcome.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct health history and physical assessments, establish diagnoses with physician.
  • Oversee treatment infusions and supportive care as appropriate.
  • Write orders within scope, including chemotherapy.
  • Manage general medical/surgical conditions with pharmacologic knowledge.
  • Coordinate follow-up and communicate with care team.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in EMR.
  • Participate in oncology quality and research projects.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans and survivorship.
  • Provide on-call and weekend/holiday coverage as needed.

Job description

The Cancer Center of South Florida is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to practice at the Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute in collaboration with the Inpatient Solid Tumor Oncology team, delivering high-quality, patient-centered cancer care in a multidisciplinary setting.

The APP will function as an independent healthcare provider, working collaboratively within a health team, and is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both well and ill patients. The APP demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses, specifically cancer patients in active treatment. The APP is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs. The APP demonstrates an advanced level of medical clinical knowledge, communication and interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice. The APP works with administrative, nursing, physician, to assure safe, effective, quality patient care and to promote educational and research missions.

This APP is dedicated to assisting patients and their families as they cope with various forms of cancer. The APP is trained to manage the physical and psychological needs of the oncology patient and his or her family. They will provide primary, acute or tertiary care in a variety of medical settings including but not limited to private practice, hospitals, cancer care centers, and palliative care centers. They may also work collaboratively with educational programs on cancer prevention and similar topics.

Core Essential Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of patients with acute, chronic and/or potential health problems.
  • Establish medical diagnoses alongside the physician.
  • May need to oversee treatment infusions and supportive care needs.
  • Write specific orders within the limits of the practice agreement/scope of practice including chemotherapy.
  • Manage general medical and surgical conditions based on knowledge of the indications, contraindications, side effects, interactions and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities.
  • Provide appropriate direction to clinic staff regarding followup patient care issues.
  • Communicate effectively with referring and primary health care providers and other care team members.
  • Manage independent outpatient clinical practice and coverage for collaborating physicians.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, concise and timely documentation in the electronic medical record according to group practice.
  • Participate in medical oncology/hematology specific clinical quality and research projects.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, wellness care, and survivorship plans.
  • Participate in learning opportunities.
  • Participate in and accept on‑call coverage assignments, inpatient, outpatient, various oncology specialties, weekend coverage and holiday coverage.
Requirements

Required Certificates, License or Registration

APRN
  • Active RN and APRN license in State of Florida.
  • Active board certification as an NP in Adult; Adult/Gerontology, Acute Care; Family.
  • Care Acute Care Certification required or: 3 years of oncology experience and have a letter from a supervising MD verifying this or AOCNP certified (need 500 hours of practice to take exam).
PA
  • Active PA license in State of Florida.
  • Active PA board certification.
Required Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
  • Oncology experience preferred.
  • New grads welcome.
