The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia UVA Health Children’s Pediatric Gastroenterology team is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to care for infants, children, and adolescents with complex feeding disorders and enteral nutrition needs.

The role provides continuity across inpatient and outpatient settings and builds lasting relationships with patients during hospitalization and after discharge.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited graduate nursing or PA program with a master's degree.
  • Virginia license or eligibility as an Advance Practice Provider; RN license if NP.
  • Current BLS; PALS/NRP as required; ACLS as position requires.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate care across inpatient and ambulatory settings to promote seamless transitions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to facilitate discharge planning and care coordination.

Job description

Join the Pediatric Gastroenterology team at UVA Health Children's in a unique role focused on caring for infants, children, and adolescents with complex feeding disorders and enteral nutrition needs. This position provides continuity across both inpatient and outpatient settings, allowing the APP to establish relationships with patients during hospitalization and continue their care after discharge.

The APP will collaborate closely with pediatric gastroenterologists, dietitians, speech-language pathologists, nursing, and case management to develop comprehensive, family-centered feeding plans. Approximately 20% of the role supports the inpatient Pediatric Gastroenterology consult service, with the remaining clinical effort dedicated to ambulatory practice through approximately 6.5 half-day clinic sessions each week.
This position is primarily Monday through Friday with no routine weekend or holiday clinical responsibilities.

ADMINISTRATION
  • Coordinate care across inpatient and ambulatory settings to promote seamless transitions for pediatric patients requiring enteral nutrition.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to facilitate discharge planning, outpatient scheduling, and care coordination.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement and operational initiatives focused on access and care transitions.
PROFESSIONAL
  • Practice in accordance with UVA Health policies, state licensure requirements, and national Advanced Practice Provider standards.
  • Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education.
  • Participate in professional development, departmental education, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Foster collaborative relationships across inpatient and ambulatory clinical teams.
CLINICAL
  • Provide comprehensive evaluation and longitudinal management of pediatric patients requiring enteral nutrition, including NG tube and gastrostomy tube management.
  • Support the inpatient Pediatric Gastroenterology consult service approximately 20% effort by participating in patient assessment, discharge planning, caregiver education, and transition planning.
  • Provide ambulatory care through approximately 6.5 half-day clinic sessions per week, managing feeding disorders, enteral nutrition, growth concerns, and gastrointestinal conditions requiring ongoing specialty care.
  • Develop and adjust individualized feeding plans in collaboration with physicians, dietitians, speech-language pathologists, nursing, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Perform diagnostic evaluation, order and interpret laboratory and imaging studies, prescribe medications and enteral nutrition therapies, and provide patient and family education.
  • Ensure timely communication with referring providers and community care teams to support continuity of care following hospital discharge.
  • Participate in weekday clinical coverage with no routine weekend or holiday clinical responsibilities.
LEADERSHIP
  • Promote patient-centered, evidence-based care across the continuum from hospitalization through outpatient follow-up.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives focused on feeding outcomes, discharge readiness, and care transitions.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for interdisciplinary team members caring for pediatric patients with enteral feeding needs.
  • Contribute to the development of standardized care pathways, patient education materials, and best practices for enteral nutrition management.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree.
  • Experience: Department and unit specific.
  • Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, and Physician Associate) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $116,123.00 - $171,163.20 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
