Job summary

UVA Health in Charlottesville, VA is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join the Pediatric Otolaryngology team. You will independently evaluate and manage pediatric ENT patients in the ambulatory clinic, perform exams, diagnose conditions, and collaborate with attending surgeons to plan care.

You will document in the EMR, support scheduling and throughput, educate patients and families, and contribute to quality improvement.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree from accredited nursing or physician assistant program.
  • Experience: Department and unit specific.
  • Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider per Virginia requirements; RN license if NP; BLS required; PALS/NRP as position requires; ACLS as required.

Responsibilities

  • Independently evaluate and manage pediatric otolaryngology patients in the ambulatory clinic setting under physician collaboration.
  • Perform history and physical examinations, diagnose ENT conditions, and develop treatment plans.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests within scope of practice.
  • Identify and triage patients for surgical evaluation and ensure timely progression to surgery.
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient management and education.
  • Collaborate with attending surgeons to optimize OR usage and scheduling.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the EMR to support billing and compliance.
  • Support department productivity and revenue goals through efficient, high-quality throughput.
  • Educate patients and families; coordinate care with referring providers.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and departmental growth efforts.

ADMINISTRATION
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and administrative staff to promote efficient clinic operations and optimize patient access.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on access, care coordination, and patient outcomes.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
PROFESSIONAL
  • Practice in accordance with UVA Health policies, state licensure requirements, and national APP standards.
  • Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education.
  • Participate in departmental education, professional development, and performance improvement activities.
CLINICAL
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage pediatric patients in the otolaryngology practice
  • Provide comprehensive follow-up care for patients
  • Order, interpret, and communicate diagnostic testing, laboratory studies, and imaging.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding disease management, medications, and long-term care plans.
  • Facilitate continuity of care through coordination with referring providers and multidisciplinary team members
LEADERSHIP
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, safety, and patient-centered care.
  • Support departmental quality improvement, clinical guideline implementation, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource for patients, families, learners, and interdisciplinary team members
Minimum Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree.

Experience: Department and unit specific.

Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $116,123.00 - $171,163.20 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
