Job summary

Urology Centers of Alabama is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) for hospital on-call nights to deliver clinical care to admitted patients. You will work with attending physicians and care teams to evaluate, manage conditions, and communicate updates, with emphasis on timely documentation in the EMR.

The role requires licensing in the state, board certification, BLS, ACLS, and credentialing readiness.

Qualifications

  • Current NP or PA license to practice in the state.
  • Current board certification as applicable to the APP's professional discipline.
  • BLS certification required.
  • ACLS certification required or obtained within the required timeframe.
  • Ability to meet all hospital credentialing, privileging, and onboarding requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to answering service calls during the assigned evening and/or nighttime hours.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and provide clinical evaluation and management during assigned hospital on-call coverage.
  • Submit charges within 24 hours of visit.
  • Review and prepare patient charts prior to encounters, including medical history, medications, laboratory results, imaging, and recent clinical documentation, which may include next-day chart prep for physicians.
  • Assist with physician in-box help (e.g., checking labs, messages, patient portal, imaging, etc.).
  • Respond as first-call for emergency room, transfer portal, hospital, and patient calls.
  • May have to make trips into the hospital for patient evaluation, procedures, or to perform pre-operative.
  • Develop, implement, and manage treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and other diagnostic tests as appropriate.
  • Prescribe medications and perform approved procedures within scope of practice, training, and clinical privileges.
  • Respond to changes in patient condition and provide timely clinical intervention, consultation, or escalation of care when appropriate.
  • Assist with hospital admissions, consultations, transfers, and discharge planning as assigned.
  • Communicate patient updates and clinical recommendations to physicians, nursing staff, patients, and families as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters, assessments, treatment plans, and interventions in the EMR.

Job DetailsGeneral Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Hospital On-Call Nights is responsible for providing clinical care and medical management to hospitalized patients during assigned on-call hours. The APP works collaboratively with attending physicians, hospital staff, and interdisciplinary care teams to evaluate and manage patients, respond to changes in clinical condition, and support timely and appropriate patient care.

The APP provides hospital-based on-call coverage and is expected to provide timely clinical evaluation, communication, documentation, and intervention within the scope of licensure, training, privileges, and organizational policies.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including obtaining histories, conducting physical examinations, and evaluating diagnostic data.
  • Develop, implement, and manage treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Round on hospitalized patients daily and provide ongoing evaluation of clinical status and progress.
  • Order, interpret, and communicate diagnostic tests, laboratory studies, and imaging results.
  • Prescribe medications, therapies, and other interventions within scope of practice and organizational policies.
  • Perform approved procedures and interventions consistent with privileges, training, and competency.
  • Respond to changes in patient condition and provide timely clinical interventions.
  • Participate in admissions, consultations, transfers, and discharge planning activities.
  • Document patient encounters, assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately and in a timely manner within the electronic medical record (EMR).

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
  • Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license applicable to the state of practice.
  • Current national board certification as applicable to the APP's professional discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in managing inpatient, hospitalist, emergency medicine, or acute-care patients independently within scope of practice.

Working Conditions
