Job summary

SSM Health St. Marys Hospital - Madison is seeking an experienced Acute Care NP or PA-C to join our Critical Care Intensivists team on the Madison campus.

The role involves overnight shifts and close collaboration with ICU nurses, respiratory therapists, and intensivists to deliver high‑quality critical care. You will gain hands‑on experience with central line placement, ETT intubation, chest tube placement, and cross-coverage across units.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of current Critical Care practice as NP or PA.
• NP applicants: Acute Care NP certification; PA: Certified PA.
• CCRNs required for NP applicants (3-5 years critical care nursing).
• Ability to obtain NP or PA licensure in Wisconsin.

Responsibilities

• Admission, treatment, and cross-coverage duties.

Job description

SSM Health Dean Medical Group, a 500-physician multi-specialty group, is actively recruiting for an experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our team of Critical Care Intensivists. The practice is conveniently based on the campus of SSM Health St. Marys Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

Requirements

• Minimum of two (2) years of current Critical Care practice experience as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
• NPs should be APRNs with Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification.
• Certified PA.
• 3-5 years of prior critical care nursing practice experience with CCRN certification required for NP applicants.
• Ability to obtain NP or PA licensure in Wisconsin.

The Opportunity

• Shifts are 6 PM- 6 AM, with 2-5 shifts on consecutive days.
• Overnight telehealth coverage for other SSM Health Wisconsin hospitals.
• Clinical responsibilities will include admission, treatment, and cross-coverage duties.
• Perform central line placement (venous and arterial), ETT intubation, and chest tube placement.
• Close collaboration with ICU nurses, respiratory therapists, and intensivists.
• Training in procedures as well as building advanced critical care knowledge and skills.
• The hospital has a 12-bed closed Medical Intensive Care Unit, a 15-bed open Surgical Intensive Care Unit, and a 12-bed Progressive Care Unit.
