Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Odessa, TX seeks a physician assistant or nurse practitioner to augment a supervising physician's data gathering and patient care planning. The role provides health care services to patients under physician direction and responsibility.

You will collaborate with the care team to diagnose, treat, educate, and ensure continuity of care for pediatric patients, with a focus on evidence-based practices and patient safety.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a Physician Assistant training program and licensed in Texas or transferable license.
• Certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA.
• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing as a Nurse Practitioner with Texas RN license.
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or eligibility to transfer certification in Texas.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive medical care to pediatric patients, including assessments and management of acute and chronic conditions.
• Obtain detailed histories, interpret data, and order diagnostics such as labs, imaging, and EKGs.
• Perform therapeutic procedures including immunizations, injections, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
• Develop and implement evidence-based care plans and document progress for continuity of care.
• Counsel patients and families on treatment adherence, prevention, and healthy lifestyles.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and the care team to optimize patient outcomes.
• Provide emergency medical care when needed in line with protocols and safety standards.

Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Major/Essential Functions

• Provide comprehensive medical care to pediatric patients, including health assessments, physical examinations, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
• Obtain detailed patient and family histories, interpret clinical data, and order/perform diagnostic tests such as labs, imaging, and EKGs.
• Perform therapeutic and preventive procedures including immunizations, injections, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
• Develop and implement evidence-based patient care plans, document progress, and ensure continuity of care.
• Counsel and educate patients and families on treatment adherence, disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, and developmental milestones.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and the interdisciplinary care team to optimize patient outcomes.
• Provide emergency medical care when necessary, in alignment with clinical protocols and patient safety standards.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
