Job summary

EmergeOrtho is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Sports Medicine team in Asheville, NC. The PA/NP will perform clinical assessments, order labs and imaging, and assist in procedures under supervision.

You will document encounters, participate in QI and research activities, and collaborate with orthopedic specialists to deliver comprehensive care across multiple locations. This role supports patient-centered care in a fast-paced orthopedic practice.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
• Strong knowledge of medical office software (Word, Outlook) and EMR systems.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and clinical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients with comprehensive history and physical exams.
• Order laboratory tests, radiology, and other studies as needed.
• Perform diagnostic procedures and administer vaccines and minor interventions.
• Assist surgeons in the operating room as requested.
• Read and interpret imaging and lab results; initiate life-saving measures when necessary.
• Document accurately in patient charts and maintain EMR entries.

With offices across North Carolina the Physician Assistant or NP role is trained and licensed to assist the supervising physician by performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, collecting and organizing historical and physical data, and exercising a degree of independent judgment in determining appropriate treatments and dispositions. The PA/NP is responsible for written documentation of all clinical interactions in the patient’s chart. This role will work with one of our Sports Medicine providers.

Qualifications and Experience

• Graduate of an accredited PA or NP program
• Medical training from an approved program
• At least two years of experience as a Physician Assistant
• Good knowledge of medical office software such as but not limited to Microsoft Word, Outlook, and medical practice software
• Familiarity with EMR programs
• Knowledge of medical terminology

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following

• Patient evaluation by performing appropriate history and physical exams
• Ordering laboratory, radiological and special studies
• Performing diagnostic procedures such as, but not limited to, physical examination, phlebotomy, catheterization, joint injections and aspirations and administering of vaccines
• Performing therapeutic procedures such as, but not limited to, suturing of wounds, foreign body removal, I&D of abscesses, reduction of fractures and dislocations, splinting, casting, and injections
• Assisting the surgeon in the OR as designated
• Reading and interpreting imaging studies and laboratory reports
• Initiation of life‑saving measures as needed
• Diagnosing and treating minor illnesses of employees of EmergeOrtho, P.A.
• Telephone contact with patients as appropriate.

Other

• Involvement in QI and research programs.
• Attendance at educational and department meetings.
• Intermittent OR, UC, and other clinic coverage required.
