Job summary

VA Fargo Healthcare System is recruiting for a full-time Advanced Practice Nurse-Urology. The NP acts as an extender to the supervising Urologist, delivering patient care within defined autonomy and collaborating with the medical team to support Veterans' health needs.

Responsibilities include conducting history and physicals, ordering tests, accompanying the Urologist on rounds, and managing discharge orders with patient education. Proficiency in EMR and safety standards is required.

Qualifications

  • APN with Urology specialization and current license in good standing.
  • Experience providing patient care in a Urology setting preferred.
  • Proficient in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) documentation and charting.
  • Ability to collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and follow-up history and physical exams for urology patients.
  • Order diagnostic tests and arrange consultations as needed.
  • Accompany Urologist on rounds and assist with inpatient care."
  • Discharge planning and orders under supervision of Urologist.
  • Provide patient and family education and counseling.

Summary

The VA Fargo Healthcare System is recruiting (1) full-time Advanced Practice Nurse-Urology. The Urology Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an important member of the urology team. The incumbent functions as an agent of the Urologist - providing patient care as an extender of the Supervising Physician's practice. As an agent of the Collaborating Physician - the NP functions within defined levels of autonomy as outlined in the scope of practice.

Duties
  • The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers
  • This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest

  • Duties include: Performing initial and follow-up history and physical examinations - screening outpatients and providing ongoing care - ordering diagnostic tests and consultations - accompanying Urologist on daily rounds of inpatients - writing discharge orders under the direction of the Urologist - providing education and counseling to patients and families - and performing urology treatment
  • The incumbent is responsible for entering accurate - complete - timely progress notes for each episode of care in the patient's electronic record
  • This is accomplished by utilizing the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • The incumbent is responsible for the proper use - maintenance - and calibration of specialized equipment used in the assessment and care of patients
  • The incumbent adheres to safety - health - and infection control standards - regulations and work practices - as well as ergonomic standards
  • The incumbent reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor and/or appropriate officials
  • The incumbent assists in orientation of new staff - and will provide patient and family education - including informed consent
  • The incumbent maintains supplies - equipment and clinical areas to optimize safety and efficiency
  • The incumbent demonstrates knowledge and maintains standards in the use and reprocessing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME)
