Job summary

Indian Health Service seeks a Nurse Practitioner to provide compassionate care for American Indian and Alaska Native communities. You will analyze patient histories, develop diagnoses, and create evidence-based treatment plans, while educating patients on self-management of illnesses.

The role includes prescribing medications, addressing acute and chronic conditions, and collaborating with a care team to improve health outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate or higher-level degree in nursing or an advanced practice specialty from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Licensure: Current, active, unrestricted RN license; advanced practice nursing positions require a specialty license appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Experience: At least one (1) year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to the next lower federal grade level (e.g., GS‑10 for GS‑11). Experience may include private or public sector roles.
  • Background Investigation: Successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.
  • Other Requirements: Must meet U.S. citizenship, Selective Service registration (for applicable candidates), and federal E‑Verify eligibility. Conditions of employment include probationary period, rotating shifts, and on‑call duties as outlined by the position.
