Job summary

The Indian Health Service seeks a Nurse Practitioner to deliver compassionate, culturally competent care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. You will assess symptoms, interpret data, and form evidence-based diagnoses to guide treatment.

You will prescribe medications, educate patients on self‑management, and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and behavioral health staff to coordinate care across settings.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate or higher-level degree in nursing or an advanced practice specialty.
  • Licensure: Current, active RN license; advanced practice nursing positions require a specialty license.
  • Experience: At least one year of specialized nursing experience or equivalent federal grade level.
  • Background Investigation: Successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.
  • Other Requirements: U.S. citizenship, Selective Service registration (where applicable), and federal E‑Verify eligibility.

Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate or higher‑level degree in nursing or an advanced practice specialty from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Licensure: Current, active, unrestricted RN license; advanced practice nursing positions require a specialty license appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Experience: At least one (1) year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to the next lower federal grade level (e.g., GS‑10 for GS‑11). Experience may include private or public sector roles.
  • Background Investigation: Successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.
  • Other Requirements: Must meet U.S. citizenship, Selective Service registration (for applicable candidates), and federal E‑Verify eligibility. Conditions of employment include probationary period, rotating shifts, and on‑call duties as outlined by the position.
