Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an Advanced Practice Clinician 2 to be a key member of the Occupational Health organization. You will promote worker health and wellbeing, provide care across settings, and have opportunities in radiation emergency medicine and other occupational health fields.

The role requires working 24/7 coverage and may include shift/weekend schedules with potential shift differential pay. Onsite in Los Alamos, NM.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working on interdisciplinary teams, effectively collaborating with personnel at all levels.
  • Recent clinical experience in direct patient care in general medicine.
  • Experience in reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting diagnostic testing, including laboratory work, ECG, PFT, audiometry, vision testing, and fitness assessments.
  • Passion for worker well‑being and population health management.
  • Competency in using an electronic medical record.

Responsibilities

  • Benefits of Occupational Health: manage fitness for duty, injuries, and health surveillance.
  • Provide after‑hour call support and triage non‑occupational health issues.
  • Support emergency response and medical surveillance programs.
  • Consult on institutional projects or policies related to worker health.
  • Assist Medical Director and collaborate with the team on patient care.

What You Will Do

The Advanced Practice Clinician 2 will be a key staff member of the Occupational Health organization, promoting worker health and wellbeing at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The clinician will provide exceptional service at the worker, organizational, and institutional levels and will have opportunities to practice medicine in fields such as radiation emergency medicine; chemical, biological and physical hazard exposure; ergonomics; travel health; reproductive health; population health management and others.

Clinical Duties
  • Fitness for duty evaluations
  • Management of work‑related injuries and illnesses
  • After‑hour call support
  • Medical surveillance and certification examinations
  • Triage of non‑occupational health issues
  • Support of emergency response efforts
  • Service as subject matter expert for medical surveillance and certification programs
  • Consultation on institutional projects or policy development related to worker health
  • Support for the Medical Director
Shiftwork

This position requires 24/7 coverage and may involve a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager.

  • Recent clinical experience in direct patient care in general medicine.
  • Experience in reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting diagnostic testing, including laboratory work, electrocardiogram, pulmonary function testing, audiometry, vision testing, and fitness assessments.
  • Passion for worker well‑being and population health management.
  • Competency in using an electronic medical record.
Training / Certifications / Licenses
  • Physician Assistants: Board certified PA‑C through the NCCPA, licensed by the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners to practice medicine (or eligible if out of state).
  • Nurse Practitioners: Certification through a national nurse practitioner certifying organization (e.g., American Nurses Credentialing Center), licensed by the New Mexico Board of Nursing (NP and RN or eligible if out of state).
  • Current New Mexico Pharmacy and DEA license (or eligible if out of state).
Education / Experience

Position requires a minimum of 2 to 5 years of recent clinical experience in occupational medicine or a clinically related field (family medicine, emergency/urgent care medicine, internal medicine, or sports medicine).

Desired Qualifications
  • Current certification for National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners through FMCSA.
  • Working knowledge of occupational health regulations and standards, including applicable OSHA standards.
  • Understanding of workers’ compensation statutes and workplace implementation.
  • Experience with emergency preparedness support.
  • Knowledge of hazards related to biological, chemical, physical, and radiologic exposures.
  • Contributions to the development of health and wellness programs.
  • Understanding of office and non‑office ergonomic science.
  • Understanding of exercise science and interpretation of tactical fitness assessments.
  • Familiarity with DOE health and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of worker fitness for duty and work ability.
  • Experience with customer service improvement projects.
  • Experience with performance improvement projects.
  • Commitment to growth as an ideal team player.
Work Location

The work location for this position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required time, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 – Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating the employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. This requirement applies only to U.S. citizens. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance

Q clearance required. Selected applicants will undergo a background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matters. Q clearance and additional authorization, if needed, are federal decisions.

New‑Employment Drug Test

Applicants must complete a new‑employment drug test and will be subject to a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination, even if the use was pre‑offer.
