Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory seeks a Thermal Hydraulic Test Engineer to advance state-of-the-art thermal hydraulic testing capabilities and hands-on lab work solving complex engineering problems. The role requires instrumentation, test specification, data processing, and collaboration to ensure timely, high-quality results.

Ideal candidates hold a related engineering or science degree (BS, MS, or PhD) with multiple years of relevant experience, and may include current Advanced Reactor Training,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science with 4+ years of relevant experience; or Master's with 2+ years; or Doctorate in a related field.
  • Current Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company is acceptable.
  • Preferred candidates have two-phase testing experience and ability to work with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on work implementing test instrumentation and apparatus, specifying tests, processing data and analyzing results.
  • Develop test section design and advanced diagnostic techniques for high-temperature and high-pressure environments.
  • Collaborate with other groups to ensure testing meets technical and timing needs of end users.

Job Description

Would you like to be part of advancing the state-of-the-art of thermal hydraulic testing capabilities in the Naval Nuclear Program? Do you enjoy hands-on laboratory work that solve real-life complex engineering problems? Consider this highly rewarding position of a Thermal Hydraulic Test Engineer.

A successful candidate will be responsible for hands on work implementing test instrumentation and apparatus, specifying tests, processing data, and analyzing test results. The Thermal Hydraulic Test Engineer will also be responsible for working as a part of the team to develop test section design and advanced diagnostic techniques to be used in a high temperature and high-pressure environment. This includes significant collaboration with other groups to ensure successful execution of test and ensuring that testing meeting the technical and timing needs of end users.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field; or Currently an Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills
  • Master's Degree or Ph. D. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or equivalent.
  • Experience in two-phase testing.
  • Experience working in projects/teams with multiple stakeholders.

Pay Range

$86,100.00 - $134,600.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. We rely on the dedication and innovation of our nearly 8000 engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel.
