West End Workforce is seeking Advanced Medical Support Assistants (AMSAs) to support the Veteran community at the Dayton VA Medical Center.
This is an opportunity to use your healthcare administrative experience in a role that directly supports Veterans and the clinical teams caring for them.
As an AMSA, you will serve as an important connection point between patients, providers, and the broader care team. You will coordinate appointments, manage patient information, support clinic operations, and help ensure Veterans can access the care and services they need.
What You'll Do
- Schedule, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments and consultations in accordance with VA scheduling guidelines.
- Serve as an initial point of contact for patients, clinics, call centers, and healthcare teams.
- Answer phones, greet patients and route messages to the appropriate clinical or administrative staff.
- Review and monitor consults, appointment requests, recall lists, and return-to-clinic requirements.
- Coordinate scheduling changes involving appointment times, dates, locations, or providers when clinic access needs change.
- Verify and update patient demographics and insurance information at each applicable interaction.
- Explain insurance information requirements, collect and scan coverage documentation, and identify third-party insurance.
- Monitor appointment requests and patient information from multiple electronic sources.
- Enter and track no-show information and other required scheduling documentation.
- Assist with administrative coordination related to emergency and non-emergency transfers to VA facilities or private hospitals.
- Provide information regarding beneficiary travel processes and assist with applicable travel voucher procedures.
- Participate in daily team huddles and weekly Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) meetings.
- Support clinical areas, community clinic operations, and inpatient units as assigned.
- Maintain strict compliance with VA privacy, HIPAA, and information-security requirements.
- Use electronic health records, scheduling systems, and other computerized healthcare applications accurately and efficiently.
What We're Looking For
You may be a strong fit if you have:
- Two or more years of healthcare administration, medical scheduling, patient access, or related experience; OR
- A certification or educational credential from an accredited institution related to medical administration.
- Experience working in a medical office, hospital, clinic, or other healthcare setting.
- Strong scheduling, organization, and data-entry skills.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and medical records.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy patient-facing environment.
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
- Strong professionalism, judgment, and attention to detail.
- Permanent authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Previous VA or federal healthcare experience is a plus, particularly experience with systems such VistA, CPRS, or other electronic health record and patient scheduling platforms.
Additional Requirements
Selected candidates must be able to meet applicable VA and federal contract onboarding requirements, which may include:
- Tier 1 / low-risk background investigation.
- PIV identification and credentialing requirements.
- Required VA privacy, HIPAA, ethics, security, and electronic health record training.
- Required proof of immunizations and health-clearance documentation, including applicable MMR, hepatitis B, varicella, tuberculosis, and influenza requirements.
This position is fully on-site and does not offer telework.
- $22.08/hour base wage
