The Durham VA Medical Center in Durham, NC is recruiting for a full-time Advanced Medical Laboratory Technician - Afternoon Shift. They are responsible for performing difficult specialized tasks in a variety of laboratory disciplines, such as microbiology, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, immunohematology (blood banking), parasitology, serology, urinalysis, and ancillary testing.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification / licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
MLTs at this level have higher responsibility for technical oversight, performing difficult tasks such as advanced blood banking, microbiology, molecular testing, and high complexity testing. They operate laboratory functions independently at remote sites, troubleshoot instruments, and resolve problems.
1 year in Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Phlebotomy.
This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, manual dexterity, and physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Exposure to infected materials and the need for protective clothing are possible. The incumbent must work effectively under stress and adapt to shifting priorities.

Perform a full range of laboratory duties from sample collection to evaluating high complexity test results, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, analyzing findings, and communicating results. Coordinate with clinical departments, perform phlebotomy, and ensure quality control and safety standards are met. Assist in training staff and students, and participate in quality improvement activities.
