Job summary

Kaweah Health seeks an HIM Coding Specialist II to translate providers' phrases into coded data. You will review health records, assign diagnoses and procedures, and ensure data accuracy for reimbursement and reporting. The role requires 1–2 years of coding experience and knowledge of current coding guidelines.

The position is full-time with day shifts in the Health Information Management department. CCS/RHIA/RHIT or CPC/COC/CIC/CIRCC certifications are preferred, and an AHIMA/AAPC credentialed

Qualifications

• Ability to operate a codefinder.
• Knowledge of medical coding processes.

Responsibilities

• Codes and abstracts diagnoses, procedures, and patient information from outpatient encounters and enters data into the hospital information system.
• Verifies abstracted hospital information fields for accuracy and completeness from paper records.
• Prioritizes outpatient and inpatient coding to keep coding up to date.
• Communicates with physicians or staff when documentation is unclear.
• Maintains coding proficiency through continuing education and keeps up with policy changes.
• Demonstrates knowledge to provide care appropriate to the population served.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
