Job summary

Mercy seeks a Primary Care Medical Assistant to support patient care in a busy clinic. The role includes rooming patients, taking vitals, phlebotomy, vaccines, and coordinating follow-ups, with Epic documentation throughout.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Certification: BLS required within 90 days of hire.
• Preferred Experience: 6+ months in clinical healthcare, ideally in primary care.
• Active MA certification/registration (RMA, CCMA, CMA) for the MA track.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for visits using the rooming process and document chief complaints.
• Take vitals, review history and allergies, and reconcile medications.
• Address care gaps such as screenings and diabetic eye exams.
• Recheck elevated blood pressures and document preventive visit details in Epic.
• Perform in-office testing: blood draws, mental status exams, EKGs, oxygen studies, PO testing.
• Administer vaccines and injections within scope; schedule follow-ups.
• Collaborate with providers and clinical teams to support care plans.

What You’ll Do

As a Medical Assistant in Primary Care, you’ll be a vital part of the patient experience and care team. Your responsibilities include:

Preparing patients for provider visits using the Advanced Standard Rooming Process:

• Documenting chief complaints
• Taking vitals, reviewing history and allergies
• Completing medication reconciliation
• Addressing care gaps (e.g., screenings, diabetic eye exams)
• Rechecking elevated blood pressures
• Documenting preventive visit details in Epic

Performing in-office testing:

• Blood draws
• Mental status exams
• EKGs
• Oxygen studies
• Point-of-care testing

Administering vaccines and injections within scope

Scheduling follow-up appointments per office policy

Collaborating with providers and clinical teams to support care plans

• Preferred Experience: 6+ months in clinical healthcare, preferably primary care
