Job summary

Mercy’s Primary Care Patient Care MA role supports a team of providers in an outpatient setting in Missouri. You will engage directly with patients, document care in the EHR, and help coordinate services to ensure timely, safe, and compassionate care.

You’ll participate in care-gap closure and maintain MA certification while advancing professional growth. Qualifications include graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program and at least one year of outpatient care experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Must actively maintain MA certification.
• One year of applicable patient care experience in outpatient or ambulatory settings.

Responsibilities

• Assist Mercy Primary Care Providers to deliver safe, timely, and patient-centered care.
• Utilize EHR systems to document care and support clinical workflows.
• Complete care gaps, AWV documentation, and med reconciliation as part of standard care.
• Provide strong communication and teamwork in a fast-paced outpatient environment.

Under the direction of the primary care operations team, the Primary Care Patient Care MA works directly with Mercy Primary Care Providers to provide safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient-centered care in a systematic way. The Primary Care Patient Care MA will partner with patients, providers, and other members of the clinical care team to drive quality outcomes for all patients. Duties and responsibilities will be performed in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Position Details

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• New hire must attend MA Clinic Academy training.
• Current Medical Assistants who are moving to Certified Advanced Medical Assistant title on the career ladder must complete MA competencies.

Education

Education Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program.

Certification

Must actively maintain MA certification.

Additional minimum requirement(s) only for Hospital Outpatient Departments

Preferred Requirements

• BLS (Basic Life Support)

Additional preferred requirement(s) for non-HOD Clinics

Experience

One year of applicable patient care experience in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with EHR systems and clinical documentation.
• Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Knowledge of common outpatient procedures and equipment.
• Commitment to patient-centered care and professional growth.
• Demonstrates knowledge of varying differences and behaviors among populations served.
• Complete Advanced Standard Rooming with overall achievement >= 90% for the last 6 months including:
• AWV questionnaire and documentation
• Thorough Medication Reconciliation
• Closing all open care gaps as indicated Encounter Guide (Fall Risk, Depression, Breast Cancer Screening, Colorectal Cancer Screening, and Diabetes Eye Exam)
• Blood Pressure Recheck for patients with elevated initial blood pressure reading
• Completion of Patient Experience Conversation

Work Environment

• Outpatient clinical setting with frequent patient interaction.
• Requires standing, walking, lifting, and use of clinical equipment.
• Potential exposure to infectious materials; PPE provided.

Physical Requirements

• Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
• Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
• Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
